Throughout 2025 and 2026, Serena Kovalosky will be working on a series of Eco-Garden events in conjunction with the United States Semiquincentennial celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Building on the Seed Journeys Project created during Kovalosky’s 2024 residency at the Slate Valley Museum, the artist’s America 250 Eco-Garden events will showcase American culture and history through the “seed journeys” of fruits and vegetables that made their way from wild ancient plants to the cultivated food we enjoy today.
Research into Thomas Jefferson’s gardens at Monticello will provide additional insights into gardening practices that became part of the evolution of the food on our plates.
